Inveraray – see Inveraray Castle, Inveraray Jail, the Arctic Penguin, the bell tower, Crarae Garden.
Cairndow – see Ardkinglas Woodland Gardens, Loch Fyne Oysters and the Fyne Ales brewery. Loch Fyne Oysters is again holding its “Taste of Loch Fyne” days on 24th February and 28th March 2012 – click on date links for further details. The dates for the next Loch Fyne Food Fair, held in the field next to the Oyster Bar, are 19th May and 20th May 2012 – click on link for further details. Fyne Ales is hosting the Fyne Fest real ale festival from 1st June to 4th June 2012. Weekend tickets cost £15-£20.
Oban – Caledonian MacBrayne ferries take you to the islands and local boats run tours to the seal colonies. See the Scottish Sealife Sanctuary, McCaig’s Tower, Cruachan Power Station and Kilmartin Glen and take time to visit the Crinan Canal on the way.
Dunoon – Benmore Botanic Gardens, the Castle House Museum and Morag’s Fairy Glen. The Cowal Highland Gathering is one of the largest gatherings in the world and takes place every August.
Helensburgh – Hill House designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh.
Dunoon and Helensburgh – the Waverley, the last sea-going paddle steamer in the world sails from both of these ports to places such as Arran, Cumbrae and Bute, and also runs excursions. Excursions for the current season have ended. The continuance of Waverley excursions is under threat principally because of high fuel costs. Loch Lomond – is about one hour’s drive from Lochside Bed and Breakfast.
